The Water and Sanitation Services project was delivered for eThekwini Municipality’s Water and Sanitation Unit across informal settlements in the northern regions of eThekwini. The project provided essential water and sanitation infrastructure to communities where services were limited or difficult to access.
The works included water and sewer reticulation, sewer manholes, tie-ins to existing networks, ablution facility platforms, ancillary plumbing, retaining walls, septic tanks, soakaways, river crossings, and road reinstatement. Much of the work took place in steep, wooded, densely occupied, and environmentally sensitive areas where hand excavation and labour-intensive methods were required.
The completed project improved basic service access for informal settlement communities and demonstrates Icon Construction’s ability to deliver practical infrastructure in constrained and challenging local environments.
