Richards Bay Effluent Pump Station

Deep Excavations

The Richards Bay Effluent Pump Station project was delivered for Mhlathuze Water and involved the construction of a new pump station for screened diluted dense wastewater, together with associated civil works and pipework. The project formed part of important wastewater infrastructure serving the Richards Bay area.

The pump station was constructed close to the harbour edge and adjacent to existing operational infrastructure, requiring deep excavation, dewatering, shoring, and careful control of construction sequencing. Icon Construction was responsible for the structural works of the pump station building, reinforced concrete construction, pipework interfaces, and associated civil works.

The completed project strengthened critical wastewater handling infrastructure and highlights Icon Construction’s ability to deliver technically demanding deep excavation and structural works in challenging coastal conditions.
