The Tongaat Water Treatment Works remediation project was delivered for eThekwini Water & Sanitation after flood damage affected the 21 ML/day treatment facility. The works were aimed at restoring the plant to reliable operation so that it could again supply potable water to Tongaat South, Metcalfe, Mamba Ridge, Hambanathi and the Belvedere and Emona reservoir systems.
The project placed strong emphasis on mechanical, electrical and instrumentation recovery, including refurbishment of the pump station, chlorine dosing, instrumentation installation, new MCC structures, motors and pumps, control valves, telemetry upgrades, chambers for mechanical installations and SCADA programming. The works required disciplined recommissioning of essential treatment and pumping systems within critical municipal water infrastructure.
