The Northern Wastewater Treatment Works Expansion – Unit 5 Phase 2 project was delivered for Johannesburg Water in Gauteng. The project involved civil, building, and structural works to increase the capacity of the existing wastewater treatment works by 50 ML/day, supporting the long-term treatment requirements of the city.
The works include major concrete structures and process-related infrastructure, including sedimentation tanks, an activated sludge reactor, a balancing tank, a chlorine contact tank, clarifiers, thickeners, pump stations, substation buildings, interconnecting pipework, and associated mechanical and electrical installations. Delivery requires careful coordination across civil, structural, building, mechanical, and electrical work fronts within an existing treatment works environment.
The project demonstrates Icon Construction’s ability to deliver substantial wastewater treatment infrastructure with the technical coordination, planning, and quality control required for complex municipal facilities.
