The Northern Aqueduct Augmentation Phase 5 included the construction of a major reinforced concrete bridge crossing over the uMgeni River, delivered as part of a wider bulk water infrastructure upgrade for eThekwini Municipality. The bridge was designed to carry a large pipeline safely above flood levels, creating a secure and durable crossing within a challenging river environment.
The works required careful planning, specialist coordination, and precise execution, including foundations, bridge supports, post-tensioned concrete construction, and the installation of the pipeline across the completed structure. Construction took place alongside existing infrastructure and sensitive environmental conditions, requiring strong control of access, safety, and sequencing.
