The North Coast Bulk Water project was delivered for uMngeni uThukela Water, formerly uMngeni Water, and involved the construction of a bulk water main from Hazelmere to the La Mercy bifurcation. The project strengthened the regional bulk water supply network along the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast.
The works included supply and installation of coated and lined steel pipe, tie-ins to existing infrastructure, fabrication of fittings and bends, valve and meter chambers, stream and river crossings, pipe jacking under road and rail infrastructure, pressure testing, disinfection, and environmental rehabilitation. Construction required particular care where the new pipeline ran parallel to existing infrastructure.
The completed pipeline improved bulk water transfer capacity and demonstrates Icon Construction’s experience in delivering large pipeline projects through agricultural, urban, and environmentally sensitive areas.
