The Nhlambanyathi River Bridge project was delivered for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport. The project involved the construction of a new three-span reinforced concrete bridge, improving access and providing a safer crossing for the surrounding community.
The works included bulk earthworks, bridge foundations, concrete construction, precast beam installation, deck construction, parapets, walkways, and associated roadworks. Construction required careful planning around river conditions, temporary access, lifting operations, and environmental controls to ensure the works were completed safely and effectively.
The project received both a Community Award and an Overall Winner for Excellence Award, highlighting the quality and value of the completed work. The bridge demonstrates Icon Construction’s ability to deliver practical, durable infrastructure that supports local mobility and community development.
