The Midmar Water Works Upgrade Phase 2 was delivered for uMngeni uThukela Water near Howick in KwaZulu-Natal. The upgrade increased the plant’s raw water intake capacity to approximately 395 ML/day in order to support 375 ML/day of saleable water, with works spanning civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, control and instrumentation disciplines.

The mechanical, electrical and control scope included dosing systems, chlorination equipment, pulsator clarifier works, rapid gravity filters, backwash balancing, clariflocculators, gravity thickener and centrifuge equipment. Electrical works included medium voltage switchgear, underground cabling, low voltage switchboards, MCCs, VSDs, UPSs, earthing and lightning protection. The completed upgrade strengthened a key regional treatment facility while maintaining focus on process reliability and operational integration.
