The Maphumulo Bulk Water Supply Scheme Phase 3 Water Treatment Works Upgrade was delivered for uMngeni-uThukela Water in KwaZulu-Natal. The project increased the treatment capacity of the Maphumulo Water Treatment Works from 6 ML/day to 12 ML/day and included extensive works to chemical dosing, controls, valves, process infrastructure and operational buildings.
The mechanical, electrical and instrumentation scope included relocation of the control room with SCADA equipment, ducting, lighting, earthing and lightning protection, relocation of existing lime dosing, decommissioning of ammonia dosing, new bentonite, PAC, potassium permanganate and chlorine dosing installations, dosing pumps, valves, pipework, actuators, telemetry and fibre cable relocations, and commissioning. The completed upgrade demonstrates Icon Construction’s capability in process-led treatment works upgrades where M&E/I systems are central to plant performance.
