The Northern Outfall Sewer project in Mthatha was delivered for Amatola Water as part of a major wastewater infrastructure upgrade. The project involved the construction of a new outfall sewer system to replace and improve existing sewer conveyance infrastructure in the area.
The works included large-diameter concrete sewer pipeline installation, smaller sewer pipelines, concrete manholes, a pipe bridge, a river crossing, decommissioning of existing sewer pump stations, and connections into the new system. Construction required careful sequencing around existing services, river works, and the integration of new and existing sewer infrastructure.
The completed project improved wastewater conveyance capacity and reliability, demonstrating Icon Construction’s ability to deliver substantial sewer pipeline infrastructure with complex crossings and live-system interfaces.
