The Durban Heights Booster Pump Station and Pipework project was delivered for uMngeni uThukela Water within the Durban Heights Water Works. The works created a booster pump station on the pipeline feeding the Northern Aqueduct, with major structural concrete, tie-ins to existing chambers, large-diameter pipework and careful planning around a critical shutdown of the operating water works.
The mechanical and electrical scope included fabrication and installation of steel pipework, swept tees, butterfly valves, a non-return valve, multiple pumps, VSDs, MCC starter cubicles, an overhead gantry crane, structural steel walkways and coordination with specialist pump set, electrical and instrumentation contractors. The successful tie-in was completed ahead of schedule despite its operational sensitivity.
